Garth Steyn
Years of experience makes a big difference to the way a course is taught. Garth Steyn has been sailing for two decades -- in many locations, seas, and environments. His experience provides a wealth of knowledge far beyond the average instructor, combined with a passionate love for sailing and a desire to share it with others.
Starting on the Vaal Dam in South Africa, at the young age of 6 years old, Garth sailed small boats, hobie cats, larger monohulls and eventually sailed from South Africa, with his parents, to the beautiful island of St Maarten. There he joined Aqua Mania, the biggest watersports and activity center on island, and gained knowledge and experience in watersports, scuba diving and captaining the large charter cats for daysails.
Garth's teaching and sharing of knowledge starts with a text book, but ends with in a memorable experience and a certificate of course ! You learn to sail by getting on the boat and sailing.
Class sizes are small -- typically 2-4 - This assures personal attention and the maximum time learning, experiencing, and sailing.
We also simply have a great boat. The 36' Catalina is spacious, well equipped and easy to sail. In addition the 24' Dufour "Little Poe" is a dream to handle and perfect for teaching novice students.

At the 6th Annual Captain Olivers Regatta, 2 great days of challenging sailing proved no problem for Garth Steyn, Aqua Mania Adventures and his crew on "MoonDance". "MoonDance" is sponsored by Pelican Marina Residences and her student crew took her to victory, in what proved to be a neck in neck race with Collin Percy of "America's Cup" fame, on board "Antares".
Students Lynda Racz of "Hollywood Casino", Byron and Bobby from sail cat "Lambada" and Steve from North Carolina... all enjoyed the challenging weather conditions and the fierce but fun competition between the two boats. The students are completing the NAUTICED courses with Garth on board "MoonDance" on weekends and in their spare time.
When "MoonDance" is not racing and winning under her sponsorship with PMR, she works hard at Daycharters and cruising along St Maarten's pristine coastline. .....

Iain Mobbs
Even though Iain was raised in Southeast England, his first real taste of sailing did not come until he embarked on an adventurous backpacking trip carrying him through Australia back in 1995. It was in the Whitsunday islands where he found work on an old fashioned square rigger as an integral crew member.
After Iain’s travels through Oz, he returned home to England to build upon that adventure by gaining racing experience on local racing yachts and studying part-time to further his sailing abilities and knowledge whilst still working as an insurance salesman. In 2007, Iain gave up his full time desk job to become a professional sailor and instructor and embark upon a new life journey.
Following a trans-Atlantic crossing, Iain set up home in St. Maarten, working as a Charter boat Captain and instructor for St Maarten Sailing School and Charters.
Iain loves what he does and does what he loves. Sailing. He has a strong desire to share his passion and help encourage others to learn and experience the wind, the waves, and the water that he has found himself sailing upon.
